XYZ Case Studies

In the final step of certain students’ restorative sanctioning, they write a summary of their interactions with the Honor System and anonymously publish their account to the Community of Trust. Inspired by the XYZ Cases at the U.S. Naval Academy, the study includes:

  1. The student’s recollection of the facts of the case;
  2. Their experience with the case process; and
  3. The lessons the Community can learn from their restorative process.

XYZ Case Studies serve as a valuable teaching tool for future education initiatives, and they promote transparency, consistency, and fairness across the Honor System by sharing with the Community the details of an Honor case from the perspective of sanctioned students. The XYZ Case Study gives the student a voice in the Honor process and provides them the opportunity to reflect on their experience and sanctions before fully rejoining the Community.
